Earlier this month, I officially joined the Theatrical Sound Designers and Composers Association, a new organization of sound designers and composers geared toward promoting our field through education, mentorship, and outreach. (I’ve worked on the Membership Committee for several months up to our initial membership drive.) With recent decisions to remove Sound Design from Tony consideration, there couldn’t be a better time for a Sound Designer and Composer group to start. Though sound has been around for a while now, the field continues to be widely misunderstood, and we need to advocate for ourselves and our art as much as possible.

As an educator, I am proud to be a member of this organization, as it not only will positively impact me, but it will also positively impact my students, who are only at the beginning of their journey.
